Smoothest moustache in the land!
Series: Masters of the Universe Masterverse - New Eternia
Title: Heroic Master of Weapons
Year: 2023

The last thing Duncan remembered was He-Man shouting “By the Power of Grayskull!” Reality cracked, and all went dark. Suddenly, Man-at-Arms found himself in a New Eternia, one broken and in need of repair.

Prelude: He might not be a He-Man, but he’s the Man-at-Arms and unlike his powerful mentee, the Man-at-Arms can grow a mustache. With the New Eternia line in full swing, we naturally get a new Man-at-Arms, too, mustache and all. So let’s say go!

The Figure: Whenever a new Masters line launches, we naturally get a new He-Man and a new Skeletor, but next in line is usually Man-at-Arms aka Duncan, the mentor and weapon smith of He-Man and the Masters.

At first glance this is the classic Man-at-Arms figure in green and orange with the funky blue helmet and orange mace. He’s a bit slimmer and a bit taller than Classics Man-at-Arms, but overall it’s clearly the same guy. Articulation is standard for the Masterverse line, meaning pretty good, and all sorts of combat poses are possible.

New Eternia Man-at-Arms does have some new stuff as well, though. First of all, he comes with two different heads, one showing him with mustache, one without, each of them with a removable helmet that they can switch. This is the first Man-at-Arms figure I ever had who could take off his helmet, actually. Both heads, when the helmets are removed, show Man-at-Arms wearing a kind of pilot cap. One helmet is the classic Man-at-Arms helmet, the other a somewhat slimmer version that reminds me of an old-school soldier’s helmet from around 1900 or so. While I prefer the classic version, it’s nice to have options.

Man-at-Arms’ trusty mace also has an exchangeable head, the second one having the top of the mace pop out like a morning star. Not something I’d have needed, but a nice little extra. The various armor parts on his body are removable for the most part, only the leg guard is fixed in place. Two pairs of hands are included, one with open hands to grip the weapons, one with closed fists.

Overall this is a very nice figure and for some reason I love the look of Man-at-Arms without the helmet, just wearing that green cloth cap. Of course the head with the mustache is the superior one, that goes without saying.

Remarks: I am not certain, but Man-at-Arms profile text is the first hint I’ve seen that the New Eternia line is not a complete continuity reboot, but rather the result of some sort of Crisis-like event that “cracked reality”. We’ll see if future profile texts or some accompanying media go further into this.

Anyway, I have yet to own a bad Man-at-Arms figure and the New Eternia figure does not break the trend. A great figure, portraying a classic character. And while he doesn’t really show us much that is new, he adds that some cool little details and extras.
