NIGHT OPS BUMBLEBEE

Series: Robots in Disguise 2.0
Allegiance: Autobot
Categories: Warrior
Year: 2015

Decepticons beware, because Night Ops Bumblebee has special black armor for undercover missions! He converts in a heartbeat from robot mode to sports car mode, and he’s got a huge sword to slash his foes into scrap!

Remarks: Night Ops Bumblebee is a simple repaint of the first Warrior-Class Bumblebee, so just a few words on the differences here. Black and yellow are switched. Yep, that’s it. Everything that was yellow on the first Bee is black here and vice versa. No other changes. Night Ops Bee is basically the evil mirror universe version of Bumblebee. Now how would that go…?

Having successfully assassinated his hated leader Optimus Prime at the conclusion of the Great War and with the benevolent Megatron in exile, Bumblebee thought he had it all. But soon he found himself plagued by visions of his vengeful mentor, threatening that Optimus Prime would return to avenge his betrayal. Fleeing to Earth to get away from the evil spirit, he finds himself in conflict with the heroic Decepticon Steeljaw, who plans to gather a new Decepticon army on Earth in order to protect the humans and liberate Cybertron from the evil Autobots’ control. Looks like Bumblebee has another fight on his hand, whether he wants to or not.

... or something like that. Anyway, I got this figure here as a late birthday present from my in-laws, as I probably wouldn’t have bothered getting it myself. It is what it is, a black (more or less) repaint of Bumblebee. Numerous Bumblebee repaints are a given in any new Transformers toyline these days, so no surprise here. So bottom line: is he necessary? Absolutely not, especially since he has yet to look like this in the cartoon. But he’s a nice little robot and personally I like the darker paintjob better than the mostly yellow one, so a tiny thumb up for that. Definitely not a must, but fun.
