SMOKESCREEN

Series: Universe 2.0
Allegiance: Autobot
Categories: Deluxe
Year: 2009

This cunning robot's job is to distract, disrupt and confuse the enemy. He is a master of misdirection, skilled at making Decepticons look in exactly the wrong direction at just the perfect time. More than one Autobot sneak attack owes its success to the skill of Smokescreen. He enjoys playing games with the enemy, taking a huge amount of pleasure in the frustration they display.

Remarks: Smokescreen is a repaint of Universe Prowl, just like Universe Silverstreak and Botcon Streetstar. So just a few words on the differences here.

Smokescreen, Prowl and Bluestreak / Silverstreak shared a mold back in their G1 days, so itís no surprise to see the same happen in Universe. Smokescreen sports a close match to his original G1 paintjob, looking good in blue and red with some white stripes and a few yellow highlights. There is less blue and more white on him this time, but the differences are not that big, so heís easily recognizable as the same character. No other changes, heís a straight-up repaint.

Smokescreen as a character was one of the few Transformers to get a spotlight episode of his own in the original G1 cartoon, which is more than Prowl or Bluestreak got. While I donít have any particular attachment to the character, I did want to complete my line-up of Season 2 Autobots to the best of my ability in the Classics / Universe / Generations line, which is why heís here. If youíre not a completist, Smokescren is, in my eyes, still one of the better uses of the mold, though Silverstreak still looks a tad better to me.
