RHINOX

Series: Beast Wars
Allegiance: Maximal
Categories: Deluxe Transmetal
Year: 1998

Following the quantum surge, Rhinox emerged in the form of a massive mechanized rhinoceros. He soon discovered that his new beast structure gave him an added conversion: a heavy treaded all-terrain vehicle. To a big, powerful and slow Maximal like Rhinox, the enhanced mobility is like a dream come true. He perfected new battle moves like pulling wheelies and devastating Predacons at high speed. Also, a new animalized robot mode improves his fluidity and skill on the battlefield.

Robot Mode: In robot mode Rhinox looks exactly like he's supposed to, stocky and powerful. In the series he was always the rock of the Maximals and his figure carries that over quite well. Like most Transmetals his robot mode actually looks more organic than his beast mode, his chest especially looks almost animalistic. His posability is, like with most Beast Wars toys, quite good and he can be put into any number of poses. The only real weakness of his is his weapon, really his horn from his Rhino mode. I don't like it much. Apart from that, though, very few complaints. A good robot mode.

Beast Mode: Rhinox becomes a rhino (who'd have guessed?) and gives a good showing. His beast mode looks almost completely technological, nothing organic about it. I like it quite well. Like all Transmetals his beast mode can be modified slightly into a kind-of vehicle mode. In Rhinox' case his hindlegs become tank threads and his front legs skis, turning him into a kind of tank. This is one mode I don't much like, though. It looks very forced and I can't see it offering much play value.

Remarks: Rhinox was one of the mainstays of the Beast Wars series, though he was never transmetalized on TV. Which is probably my main gripe with this figure. Transmetals Cheetor, Optimus Primal, and Rattrap are favorite figures of mine because their Transmetal forms were used extremely well in the series. Rhinox' Transmetal figure never was, so maybe that's why I like it less. It's still a decent figure, though, and taken on its own there is nothing to complain about. A good Beast Wars toy.
