STARSCREAM

Series: Universe 2.0
Allegiance: Decepticon
Categories: Deluxe
Year: 2009

Starscream is one of the deadliest warriors ever to emerge from the early battles of the civil war. He allied himself early on with Megatron, realizing that the Decepticon way was the easiest path to absolute power. He takes joy in destruction, his shrill laughter echoing across any battlefield over which he flies. Despite his power, he is a coward at heart, a bully more than a tyrant. He lives to lord his strength over those weaker than him, but he lives in fear of anyone stronger.

Remarks: Starscream here is (yet another) repaint of Classics Starscream, so look for the full review there. Just some words on the differences here. Classics Screamer was close to the look of the original G1 Starscream (talking about the animated character, not the toy), but there were quite a few differences as well. Not so with Universe Starscream. His paint job is pretty much G1 Starscream through and through.

Even leaving the more G1-accurate paint job aside, though, Universe Screamer is ahead of Classics Screamer in terms of paint application as well. Everything's painted, especially the face (which was just unpainted grey plastic for Classics Screamer). Okay, that shade of red he sports is the exact shade of red that refuses to photograph properly (there is a lot of that shade going around the Universe line, see Ironhide, among others), but if you're looking at it with the old Mark I eye ball, everything looks pretty great.

So bottom line: Still not the greatest fan of the mold in general, but this is one of the best paint jobs I've seen for it so far.

Rating: B+
