STARSCREAM

Series: Botcon Exclusives
Allegiance: Decepticon
Categories: Voyager Convention Exclusive
Year: 2008

Among the mysteries of science lies the key to victory.
In his youth Starscream was one of the most brilliant scientific minds to ever graduate from the Crystal City Science Institute on Cybertron. When the Great War between the Autobots and the Decepticons began, Optimus Prime tried to recruit Starscream, but he refused. As a consequence, Optimus ordered the Crystal City destroyed as Starscream watched in horror. Shortly afterwards, the Decepticons rescued Starscream and it was at that point he knew his purpose. He swore a life debt to Megatron and decided to apply his scientific skills toward the development of ways to fight the Autobots. Through his work, he found ways to design more complex transformations based on Megatron's original technology and has develped weapons able to effectively counter Prime's oppression. He approaches his work with a grim demeanor and the fervent hope that one day, rather than using his skills for destruction, he will instead be able to work for the betterment of Cybertron.

Remarks: Starscream marks the 444th review here on this site, so please stand up and applaud! Finished? Okay, here we go:

Starscrean is a repaint of Galaxy Force Starscream, so look there for the full review. Here's just some words on the differences. If you're looking for a "good" Starscream, you don't really need to look any further than Jetfire. In G1 the two were both scientists and friends until they found themselves on opposite sides of the Great War. So it isn't surprising that the Starscream from Shattered Glass sports both Jetfire's paint job, as well as Jetfire's motto. It's kinda sad, actually, that we didn't get an "evil" Jetfire as part of the Botcon set. He could have sported Starscream's colours and motto. But I digress.

As a figure Starscream is pretty good, not surprising as the original Cybertron / Galaxy Force figure is also pretty good. All the gimmicks of the original work here, too, of course. May I just say that from a photographer's point of view the mostly-white colour scheme does pose a bit of a problem, seeing as the white tends to swallow up the details and reflect the light. Still, a very nice figure, a great paint job, so no complaints. In the Shattered Glass comic book Starscream sadly didn't play much of a part. He was seen just in a few panels, but at least he was the one who came up with the idea of who to take out the Autobots' Ark. And it was pretty strange to see him adress Megatron as "Mighty Megatron" without any sarcasm shining through.

So to sum it up: A very nice version of Starscream. Recommended if you can get him.
