Series: G1 Reissues Strike first, strike fast, strike hard.
"Let me at 'em," is Cliffjumper's motto. His eagerness and daring have no equal. He's driven by a desire to win the battle against the Decepticons. Finds Earth terrain a hindrance. One of the fastest Autobots. Often uses his speed to draw fire away from others. Shoots 'glass gas' which makes metal as brittle as glass. His recklessness often leads to actual blow-outs and situations too dangerous for him to handle.
Cliffjumper looks very similar to Bumblebee
, but appearances to the contrary he is not a repaint. His torso is different, as is his head. Unlike BB, he's got a face, even in the early version. There is no mistaking that the two came out of the same mold, but they are not identical. As a matter of fact, this is the only version of Cliffjumper that is not a repaint of Bumblebee. Like BB, Cliffjumper can move his arms pretty well, while his legs are almost immobile. Still, for an early G1 figure that is quite decent posability. In this version Cliffjumper is black, which swallows up most of his details, but he still looks pretty nifty. The only difference between this re-issue key chain version and the 1984 original, apart from the colour, is the tiny ring on his shoulder where the key chain goes in.
Cliffjumper transforms into a small car that looks like the love-child between a VW bug and a sports car. Not sure if he's supposed to be an actual model or not. He's got a spoiler on the back, which is just about his only distuingishing detail. A nice little car, though. Nothing to complain about.
"Let it be known, tlaveller, that the mighty Shogun has decleed fol now and fol all time: Fol any Tlansfolmels figule evel made, Takala-Tomy shall ploduce a black valiant edition to please the souls of the Japanese people. So it is wlitten, so it shall be done." Quote from the holy book of Japanese Transformers guidelines, which rests in the vaults of Takara-Tomy.
For every Bumblebee there is a Cliffjumper and for every coloured Japanese figure, there is a black version. Or so it seems, anyway. G1 Cliffjumper, who is not a repaint of Bumblebee, by the way, appeared from the first episode of the cartoon series and well into the second season. In the 1986 movie he was one of the Autobots who escaped from within Unicron, but he was never seen again afterwards. Still, as a character he was interesting, violent and paranoid. I really wanted the red version of him, but I got this black version for 1 Euro (together with three other Minibots), so it was a bargain. Recommended to G1 fans.
